Watermelon Smoothie

First posted in June 2010, but watermelon was on sale this week, so I'm drinking this delicious one again.  This time I blended the watermelon with only lemon and that too was yum!
I jumped away from the veggie cooler for this week and I'm enjoying a watermelon smoothie. I really believe that you should eat whatever foods are in season--all of it! Eat it until it's gone or until you sicken of it. That's what I think.

So this week it's that ten pound watermelon and it's been delicious! 'Til now, I didn't realize that the other three persons in this family don't really like watermelon. Really?

I think that half of it was rind. (I'll wait to save the rind next year for pickle preserving!)

Salud!

1 cup ice cubes
3 cups seeded watermelon
1 cup strawberries
1 t. lemon juice
1/8 c. sugar (Sweet berries so I didn't need any sugar)

Mormon Wine Punch

This was served at the winter wedding reception in Colorado and it was delicious.  All my friends wondered what alcohol could enhance it.  I think they didn't get the message.

One can of frozen lemonaid dissolved in 1 1/2 can of cold water.
One can of frozen grape juice dissolved in 1 1/2 can of ice water.
2 liter bottle of ginger ale.
Served over ice.  Delicious.

Banana Citrus Smoothie

Well, College Guy finally got his mission call and he is going to Anchorage, Alaska for two years. We are very excited, but we are wondering about gluten-free food there.

Having him home working to fix all the household nuisance jobs has been good for me because I'm cooking up a storm. Today the cousins came to visit and to work alongside him and no one wonders any longer why he eats so often. After two hours of splitting wood, he breaks for second breakfast, elevensies before lunch and again for snacks twice in the afternoon before salivating in for dinner.

Yesterday while on the lunch break the ex-Peruvian cousin brought in a magazine article from FOOD, Inc and we replicated the recipe for Banana Ice and called it Banamon Orpple Smoothies. I just had to share the recipe 'cause it was so delicious!

3 small lemons juiced
2 bananas peeled
3 oranges juiced (I used 1/3 cup frozen orange juice concentrate)
1/2 can pineapple chunks with juice
2 Tbs. honey
4 cups ice cubes

I put all ingredients in the blender, honey and pineapple juice first so the honey doesn't freeze into shards. I use a Blendtec-I only promote this 'cause I love it! And the brother works there and gave me a refurbished one. I add all ingredients and blend until smooth--adding water when necessary.

I poured it out in glasses, went outside and found a mint-looking herb and garnished it.

Delicious! I promise!

Hot Mug of Happiness GF Tea

Chinese symbol for happiness

Hot Ginger Tea just ginger root, lemon and honey.

I've been drinking this stuff for a week and I'm hooked. If I don't have a pot simmering, I'm unhappy, ergo, this must be Happiness. It's just what I need to make that motherly connection so that I can send my daughter off to the Orient in peace.

It's great hot, but delightful cold too. This comfort may have to persist for the entire eighteen months. My added G-F consolation is that ginger has ancient healing powers for the digestion too.

Smoothie of the Week

SMOOTHIE! This week's color, more green!!!!

After winter's weak and weary, I struggle through the dark and dreary...

But not this year!!!

I typically limp into Spring with aches and pains, I'm all used up. I drag through February and into March with a dim dark cloud hanging over my shoulder. Usually, it's all I can do to hold out until spring and the fresh, raw, reinvigoration of summer's fresh produce.

BUT Not This Year!!!! At the reuniting of the family (that vacation thing) I was told that I look great! I feel great and I'm so much healthier and happier than last year at this time!!!! It's the smoothie, I swear on it!I am loving the side effects of drinking green smoothies.

I'm getting my fresh veggies and not having to battle the difficulties of a daily salad to do so. It's been four months since I began swilling the sludge of green smoothies and I'm sold!

So from now on, there will be a weekly smoothie of the week recipe and photograph for all to admire and me to swill down!

THE RECIPE:

Spinach, carrots, cucumber, zucchini, cauliflower, celery, clementine, banana, broccoli, green apple and orange juice.

Green Green Green Smoothie

I know I'm beating this topic to death, but today's was really terrific. Green apples, celery, cucumber, spinach, banana, agave syrup, vanilla, ice, delicious!!!!

Caveat:

Almost as good as Jamba. Okay, I've said that these are as good as Jamba, without ever having had a Jamba before. I had a jamba yesterday, the Pomegranate Paradise, and these smoothies, while delicious, are not anything like Jamba, although they might be healthier.

Daily Episode of Fear Factor

Gotta have special stuff for a green smoothie? Nah, today I scrounged the fridge and mixed a carrot, granny smith apple, lemon, zuccini, spinach, honey, and beet melange. It was curiously delicious--smoothies have flavors unlike anything I've tasted heretofore. Clean, fresh, healthy, it's hard to explain.

The college daughter called yesterday after her first smoothie and said that she was surprised at the taste of what she mixed up. "Mom, it wasn't anything like I expected."

Today's mixture was surprisingly good considering the vitamin and health value. And once again there was the added benefit. I threw the stone to kill two birds, ie., emptying the fridge and tweeking the children.

"Just try it, take one swallow and get all your vitamins in one gulp," I say. Then the teenager responds, "Every day at our house is an episode of Fear Factor."

Green Smoothie Momma

Testing. Testing. Okay, a friend is trying to get me to try the smoothie version of vegetables. My adventuresome personality is willing to try anything. Here is the link to the professional (ms green smoothie girl) who really knows what she's doing, but I figure, how can I mess this up? It requires no baking!

Just stick leftover stuff in the blender, (must be of the plant derivation) and blend it and drink it.

I don't know what it is about these concoctions, but they make me immediately satiated and full and like I ate a fifteen course meal. Of course that could be because I'm adding this to my daily intake, instead of replacing my meals with it.

Gotta work on that.

Meanwhile, here are photos of the beet, spinach, red pepper, agave, banana smoothie, and the spinach, apple, peach, sweet red pepper, lemon smoothie.

One thing that I can't recommend. When the husband brings home mustard greens instead of spinach, DON'T MAKE A SMOOTHIE WITH IT. Burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire on your tongue.

It appears that this too can be Messed Up!

Other than that one, they have all been tasty and even the boys will act as taste testers.
